Sadly, those of us playing on the older hardware are stuck playing a compromised version of the game. It’s a bit of a hassle, but at least it gets the job done.

On the Switch, playing in portable mode will improve performance. Even those of us who aren’t particularly sensitive to frame rate issues will likely be able to tell when the Wii U hardware is having a hard time keeping up. Whenever you’re near a village, any hope of a 30fps lock goes right out the door. On the Wii U, we’ve spent about six or seven hours around the Great Plateau and Necluda in the early parts of the game, and the frame rate is downright terrible at times. Find release dates, customer reviews, previews. Running the new Zelda on the Switch has seen mixed results, but the Wii U version of the game is particularly disappointing for many Nintendo diehards. Buy The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch by Nintendo for Nintendo Switch at GameStop. Unfortunately, the lackluster frame rate can make it hard to enjoy. Breath of the Wild targets a v-synced 30fps on Wii U and Switch, but that huge open world design creates problems sustaining it, reveals Digital Foundrys.

Nintendo finally shook free from many self-imposed constraints, and made something very different. I'll grant you Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey, but that game is almost year out from where we sit right now.Original story: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has received an incredible critical response over the last week, and it’s easy to see why. That leaves you with what? Arms? 1, 2, Switch? That's it so far isn't it? Are those really the "awesome games that you can't play anywhere else" that you are referring to?

The additional "content" in the Switch version of MK does not inspire me to pay $60 for the game all over again. The Switch may have awesome games that you can't play anywhere else but it doesn't have them yet.īoth Zelda and Mario Kart can both be played on the Wii U. The Switch will offer a large number of amazing games that you won't be able to find anywhere else, and that alone makes the console worth the purchase in my opinion. The Switch will, I think, probably do very well, so I don't see a big risk with another Wii U type of situation but with fewer good games. The Wii U has many such games, and it's considered a disaster. Almost every console has some awesome games that you can't play anywhere else. No complaints at all there).ĮlkinFencer10 wrote:Same on all fronts.

(That said, Nintendo has been all aces with their handhelds if you ask me. I really WANT the Switch to do well and I really WANT to want to own one, if you see what I mean. After 20+ years of watching Nintendo make questionable/bizarre decisions regarding their home consoles (N64 to present), I have become a pretty cautious Nintendo fan. It's not $300 worth of difference for a new console to me, it's $300 worth of difference for literally the same game.Īs far as the Switch as a whole, I am taking a very wait-and-see approach. Already praised as one of the greatest games of all time. I don't even regret getting 3DS before the £70 price drop half a year later This week The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released simultaneously as both a Nintendo Switch launch game and the Wii U's swansong. Even widely considered 'disappointing' systems like Vita and Wii U have more than justified my investment. Sure, there's opportunity to get burned there, but I've been OK so far. If you already have a Wii U just play that version knowing you are not missing out on anything important.

Very close, but the image is sharper in TV mode on Switch and Handheld mode is free of frame drops. 'Sure there might be 6 games I want on this system now, but do I want to spend £500 on half a dozen games?' Own the Wii U version but checked out the Switch version in TV and Handheld mode at a friend's house.

'This new game looks awesome, but does it look £340 worth of awesome?' Should you upgrade from Wii U to Switch for the optimal Zelda experience Wed say that depends on how you play it. 'I don't see £300 of difference between these 2 versions of Zelda' 83 The Switch version was available in limited 'Special Edition' and 'Master Edition' bundles, which both included a Sheikah Eye coin, a Calamity Ganon tapestry with world map, a soundtrack CD, and a themed. It was the last Nintendo game released for the Wii U. Alienjesus wrote:I feel if I thought about new console purchases this way, I'd never buy a new console. Breath of the Wild launched for both the Wii U and Switch on March 3, 2017.
